Once considered a Western delicacy, peanut butter is now rapidly gaining popularity among health-conscious individuals. Its appeal lies in its high protein and low carbohydrate content, making it a favorite choice for those looking to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Before we dive into our top picks for peanut butter in India, it’s essential to understand a crucial distinction. Peanut butter and peanut butter spread are not the same. Traditional peanut butter is made solely from roasted peanuts, while peanut butter spread may contain added oil, chocolate, and other additives. However, it’s worth noting that in India, most brands do not differentiate between the two, and they are all labeled as peanut butter. Hence, we have also chosen both for this article.
With that clarification in mind, we’ll now consider the key aspects like ingredients, nutritional value, texture, spreadability, taste, and price to help you make an informed decision and choose the peanut butter that best suits your health preferences. So, let’s explore the top seven best peanut butter in India!

How We Picked And Tested?
First, we narrowed down the selection by picking ten of the most popular peanut butter brands in India. After careful consideration, we selected seven of them for a thorough evaluation.
We took a deep dive into the ingredients, looking to see which brands stuck to the basics of pure peanut butter and which ones opted for additional additives. Our focus was not only on taste but also on the quality of the additives. We made sure they were of plant origin and didn’t come with any concerning side effects.
Next on our list was nutritional content, with a particular focus on protein. We know many fitness enthusiasts swear by high-protein diets for weight loss and muscle growth, so finding options with significant protein content was a priority. We also awarded extra points to those without added sugar, as we understand the importance of making healthier choices. The values we mention throughout the article are per serving size of 32 gm.
While health is vital, we also considered practicality. We assessed how well these peanut butters spread on bread and mixed with milk for shakes – because let’s face it, ease of use matters in our daily routines. Texture and taste were equally crucial factors in determining the overall experience.
Last but not least, we took a good look at the price tags to see which products offered the best value for money.
In the end, our extensive evaluation led us to uncover the top-notch peanut butter options that passed all our criteria with flying colors.
Note- Some peanut butter brands use INS471 as a stabilizer, which prevents the separation of oil from the peanut solids. These peanut butters are thicker in consistency, while ones without have a runnier consistency. INS471, also known as Glyceryl monostearate, is derived from glycerin and fatty acids found in plant oils like coconut oil, soybean oil, and sunflower oil. Considering that all peanut butter labels carry an allergen advisory for soybean oil, we can reasonably infer that the INS471 used in peanut butter production comes from soybean oil. Fortunately, as of now, there are no known safety concerns associated with INS471.

How To Choose Peanut Butter?
Peanut Butter vs Spread
First and foremost, you need to decide whether to buy peanut butter or peanut butter spread. Children may be more fond of spreads because they are usually sweeter as they contain chocolate, sugar or other sweeteners. But on the other side, they contain some additives, which may not be the best for your health. That being said, not everyone may like pure peanut butter as it is 100% peanuts and isn’t sweet.
Next, look at the ingredients to understand the protein content in it. Always, the higher the better. Protein keeps you fuller and helps build muscle. This is important when you are trying to eat healthy or when you want to lose weight. You won’t have the urge to gorge on junk when you have adequate protein intake.
As peanut butter is something that you are likely to consume on a regular basis, it is necessary to consider the price. Between pure peanut butter, given the nutritional content is the same, it is a no-brainer to opt for the cheapest one. But, if you are more concerned about protein intake and are looking for peanut butter with added whey or pea protein, check the price to protein ratio to make a decision.
Most peanut butter come with plastic container packaging. Among the options, ones like Alpino and Pintola have airtight packaging, which MyFitness and As-it-is lacks. The ones with air tight containers last longer when stored in kitchen cabinets.
Best Peanut Butter In India
My Fitness Chocolate Peanut Butter
As the name suggests, My Fitness chocolate peanut butter contains dark chocolate, brown sugar, salt and INS471 in addition to the main ingredient roasted peanuts. As a result, it has higher sugar content of 3gm and surprisingly, lower protein at 8 gm per serving ( according to nutritional labels). It also has higher sodium content measuring 112 mg per serving ( the product image on Amazon shows 43mg, while the pack we bought shows 112 mg). Pure peanut butter has just 6-8 mg and the ones with additives usually have around 40-45 mg sodium. So, if you have high BP or are trying to cut down on sodium intake, you may find other options better.
The texture of the peanut butter is quite smooth. As it has added stabilizers, its consistency is thicker compared to pure peanut butter. Even so, it is fairly spreadable. As for the taste, it is obviously sweet and so, leaves an aftertaste typical to consuming chocolate.
My Fitness sells peanut butter in other flavours like original, dark chocolate with added whey, Schezwan peanut butter and honey flavour. The one with added whey has 10 gm protein per serving compared to 8 gm in the rest.
Price-wise, it costs higher than options like Alpino and As-it-is at Rs. 478 per kg.
Alpino Natural Peanut Butter
The Alpino Natural peanut butter is made from 100% roasted peanuts without any additives. It is available in crunchy and smooth consistency so that you can choose the one suitable to your palate.
According to the nutritional label, it contains 9.6 gm of protein per serving, 5.76 gm of carbohydrates and 15.68 gm of total fat. It doesn’t contain any added sugar.
Pintola and As-it-is are two other brands that offer pure peanut butter. But, even so, when you compare the nutritional labels, there are slight differences in the fat and sodium composition in each. When comparing these three brands, we have considered other aspects like taste, texture, price etc. to rank.
Comparatively, Alpino has a slightly more thicker consistency and is crunchier than Pintola. However, when it comes to that nutty flavour, both are almost alike.
Price-wise, it is cheaper than Pintola and MyFitness at Rs. 400 per kg.
Alpino offers peanut butter in other flavours like Dark Chocolate crisp, Chocolate ( Smooth and Crunch) and organic ( smooth and crunch)
Pintola Peanut Butter
As mentioned, Pinto peanut butter is pure and made from 100% roasted peanuts. Hence, its nutritional profile is also similar.
Something we liked about Pintola is that they gave an assorted trial pack with the order which contained classic, dark chocolate creamy, natural crunchy and coconut jaggery creamy flavours. According to the labels, coconut jaggery and dark chocolate have slightly higher protein content with 10 gm and 10.8gm per serving respectively. This is because they contained added pea and whey protein.
The Pintola crunchy peanut butter was the most fluid among the ones we tried. It is lesser crunchy bits of peanuts compared to other options too.
Price-wise, it is almost at par with MyFitness costing Rs. 475 per kg.
As-It-Is Peanut Butter
As mentioned earlier, As-it-is contains 100% roasted peanuts. As a result, it has 9.6 gm of protein, 16 gm fat and 6.3 gm carbohydrates per serving.
The option we chose was natural crunchy. Texture-wise, it was the thickest among the pure peanut butters we tried. Also, it had a lot more crunchy peanut bits compared to Pintola and Alpino.
When it comes to packaging, other options sell 400 gm packages. So, you can buy smaller quantities as first purchase to check the taste. But, As-it-is comes in 1 kg packs. It costs around Rs.400 per Kg.
In addition to natural crunchy, it is available in natural creamy, chocolate crunchy and creamy options.
Fittify Peanut Butter
Fittify by Saffola contains 91% roasted peanuts. The other ingredients are sugar, flaxseed, INS 471 and iodized salt. It contains 8.4 gm of protein, 16.4 gm fat and 2.6 gm sugar per serving. It has a moderate concentration of sodium at 40 mg/serving.
Taste-wise, this peanut butter seems to be sweeter than Sundrop, which we’ll discuss in more detail later on. This observation might raise questions about the accuracy of the claim that it contains only 2.6 grams of sugar when compared to Sundrop, which has 3.5 grams of sugar.
The consistency is thick as it contains stabilizers. As a result, it is not as spreadable as pure peanut butters we covered earlier.
Price-wise, it is cheaper than Saffola at Rs. 315 per Kg.
Fittify peanut butter is available in different consistencies and flavours like vegan protein, whey protein, super creamy, extra salty, dark chocolate, unsweetened and so on.
Saffola Peanut Butter
We chose this option as it is one of the best-selling peanut butters online. But, Saffola peanut butter contains the lowest concentration of peanuts amongst the options we tried at 84%. Rest of the ingredients are cane jaggery powder (13%), INS 471, hydrogenated soyabean oil, iodized salt and natural and nature-identical flavouring substances.
When manufacturers mention “natural” and “nature-identical” flavors in their product, it’s indeed a signal to be cautious. These terms often indicate that the food has undergone significant processing to create or mimic certain flavors, rather than being derived directly from natural sources. They may have negative effects on gut health and overall well-being.
Taste-wise, it is quite sweet and hence maybe preferred by young kids. Though it contains around 44 mg salt, the sweetness dominates over the saltiness. Being thick in consistency, it is not as spreadable as Pintola, Asitis and Alpino either.
Saffola peanut butter is available in crunchy and creamy texture. It costs around Rs. 380 per kg.
Sundrop Peanut Butter
Sundrop peanut butter contains just 90% roasted peanuts. The rest of the ingredients are sugar, stabilizer, refined groundnut oil and iodized salt. Comparatively, the protein content is lower at 8% and it has the highest percentage of saturated fat among the options we tested at 4.4%. Saturated fat is supposed to be unfavourable for cardiovascular health. The percentage of monounsaturated fatty acid ( good fat) is also slightly lower at 2.4%. It contains 3.5 gm sugar per serving.
Comparatively, it has very thick consistency, which affects its spreadability to an extend. The texture is smooth without any graininess. But there is a distinct salty flavour to the peanut butter, evident from the high sodium content of 64.5 mg per serving.
Price-wise, it is the least expensive option among the ones we tried at Rs.230 per kg.

Best Peanut Butter For Weight Loss
Increasing protein intake can indeed play a significant role in weight loss efforts. Proteins are essential macronutrients that provide the building blocks for various tissues in the body, including muscles. When you consume more protein, it can promote feelings of fullness and satiety, which may help you consume fewer calories overall. This, in turn, can contribute to a calorie deficit and aid in weight loss.
Moreover, protein has a higher thermic effect of food compared to fats and carbohydrates, meaning your body burns more calories to digest and process proteins.
Pure peanut butter generally have around 9.6gm of protein per serving of 32 gm. However, most of the brands have options with whey protein added to peanut butter to increase the overall protein concentration. These options usually have more than 10 gm of protein per serving.
